chromatic non-harmonic tones

Basic Concepts

1.  Chromatic non-harmonic tones are notes that do not fit into the local harmony or the prevailing key.

2.  The difference between chromatic non-harmonic tones and diatonic non-harmonic tones is the relationship of the note to the prevailing key.  Chromatic non-harmonic tones are not diatonic to the key.

3.  All types of non-harmonic tones can be chromatic.

Please see the section on non-harmonic tones for a review of the various types.
